Overview

The Impact Cricket Ground (ICG) was built in 2007/2008.  The ICG enables young adults and teenagers to meet in a secure environment and to enable them to play various types of sports together such as cricket or soccer.  The ground is covered by a giant net of 30 meters long, 20 meters wide and 6 meters high and is also illuminated at night for night games.

There are two 40 foot HC shipping containers on the side for a "pavilion" which have been placed on top of each other with a winding staircase running between. The ground is covered in grass but has a concrete cricket pitch covered in a professional astro turf. It lends itself to indoor sports but with an outdoor experience. Come and experience something different! We especially encourage young adults from various churches or teams from surrounding schools to take part. Companies are also encouraged to make use of this facility as a team building initiative.

Concept

The concept originated from the early 90's and was to provide an indoor cricket field, but with at least double the area of traditional indoor or action cricket fields. This would provide a versatlie area with a better batting and fielding experience than the traditional games. Traditional fields are about 25m x 10m x 4.8m where as this facility offers 30m x 20m x 6m. It also gives a better soccer feel than the some smaller indoor soccer facilities. Even an awesome variation of dodgeball can be played with as many as 30 players or more.

Non Profit Organization

All proceeds of this facility go to a non profit organization called Neema Lalela.  Neema Lalela is an organization that supports needy children affected by the AIDS/HIV pandemic. Support Neema Lalela by supporting this sporting facility and help a child who is in dire need. Visit www.neemalalela.org for more information and if your heart finds a place for it, make a small contribution, and together with others turn a desperate childs life around.

Construction

The ground was mainly built by volunteers and took one year to complete. Most building was done after hours and on weekends. The facility was donated to Neema Lalela by various people who believed in this project and who believed it would materialize. A little faith went a long way. The ground has been kindly leased to the ICG by the West Rand Lutheran Church at no cost.
